I believe it's a lap-behind topic, but I came across with an idea that Git local repositories can be connected with each other over P2P network, in place of a centralized bare repository.
And as I expected, several developers have already proposed such an idea and implemented some software:
GitTorrent: https://blog.printf.net/articles/2015/05/29/announcing-gittorrent-a-decentralized-github/
Gitchain: http://gitchain.org/ .
I know almost nothing about them, but they seem to be fascinating.
I wonder they could have caught more eyes since Microsoft acquired Github last year.
